Monday Night Drill Reviews Meters and SCBA

By Mechanicsville Volunteers
February 19, 2020

On Monday at 1900 hours, crews reviewed our meter inventory to include our new PID sensor. This will allow us to detect the presence of over 100 volatile organic compounds.

Following the review, there was a refresher on SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) components, our RIT pack, and SCBA emergency procedures. Members then completed a confidence drill. SCBA were disassembled and set up to be unusable. While blindfolded, each member had to return their packs to a serviceable position, assemble them, and help their crew do the same. This drill helped members work individually and as a team with no visibility while having reduced dexterity with their gloves and ensuring knowledge of each component.
