By Mechanicsville Volunteers
February 7, 2019

At 2011 hours, Rescue Squad 2, Squad 1002, EMS Stations 29, 1002, and SMALS were alerted to Thompsons Corner Road in the area of Bethel Church Road for the Serious MVA, reported one patient trapped and unconscious. Rescue Squad 2(Capt. Raley) and Rescue Engine 22 (Lt. Busl) marked up responding immediately with 12 volunteers. Engine 21 and Squad 1002 marked up moments later.

Rescue Company 2 arrived to find a single vehicle into a tree and confirmed one patient, trapped and unconscious. Crews immediately went to work stabilizing the vehicle and the started the extrication. Crews began removing parts of the car on both sides simultaneously. Once access was gained to the patient, the patient had a faint pulse and was rapidly extricated after crews performed a dash lift to free the patients legs.

Once extricated, the patient was quickly loaded in the ambulance and crews continued patient care.

Ambulance 296 transported one patient Priority 1 to Saint Mary's Hospital with medics on board. Units returned to service. Rescue Squad 2 remained on the scene for 2 hours providing scene lighting for the Sheriff's Office as they conducted crash reconstruction.

The Mechanicsville Volunteers extend our prayers to those affected by this incident.

Units: Rescue Squad 2, Rescue Engine 22, Engine 21, Command 2, Chief 2A, Chief 2B
