March 24, 2017

March 24, 2017 At 0626 hours on Friday morning Station 5, Squad 5, EMS 59 and 29 were alerted to a motor vehicle accident on Maddox Road in the area of Manor Road. A short time after the initial dispatch the assignment was upgraded to a serious accident adding Squad 2 and the Medic Unit. As units were responding additional information was received that a third vehicle had now overturned in an attempt to avoid the initial accident.
Chief 5A was first to arrive location three total vehicles with three patients. One vehicle was on its side and another rested on the guard rail. Chief 5A requested a helicopter for one patient. Chief 5 arrived on the scene and established the command. Upon arrival Squad 5 began extrication to remove the patient from the vehicle on the guard rail. Squad 2 arrived and assisted with stabilization and removal of the patient.
After assessment and consult, Ambulance 297 also requested their patient be flown. Trooper 7 advised that they could take both patients. Both patients were transported to the landing site which was at the intersection of Mill Point Road and Maddox Road. Trooper 7 flew both patients to Suburban Hospital. Engine 51 handled the landing site for the helicopter. The third patient from the third vehicle signed a refusal.
Squad 5 provided lighting for a short time for the Sheriff's Office. Command was terminated and all units returned to quarters at 0752 hours.
