At 2317 hours Station 7, Rescue Squad 1, Rescue Squad 2, EMS Station 79, EMS Station 19, and St. Mary's ALS were dispatched to the 25200 Block of McIntosh Road in Hollywood for a Serious Auto Accident with a person under the vehicle.
Engine 72, Engine 73, Brush 7, and Utility 7(Captain Gardiner) responded with 14 Volunteers on the incident. Engine 72 arrived on location to find a single vehicle overturned with wires and a pole down in the area. Utility 7 arrived on location and Captain 7 established the Command. The Crew from Engine 72 found one patient that was pinned under the vehicle who was alert but unable to move and a second patient who was out of the vehicle. Rescue Squad 1 and Rescue Squad 2 arrived a short time later with all three crews going to work to stabilize the vehicle. Chief 2 was assigned the "Extrication Group Supervisor" with Engine 72 and both Rescue Squads. Once the vehicle was stabilized, crews utilized the HURST E-Draulic ram and the Res-Q-Jacks to lift the vehicle off the patient. Once accessed was gained to the patient it was found that the patient had been impaled by a piece of the vehicle. Command request that the "Go Team" be activated due to the unknown time to complete the extrication. The crews worked to remove the vehicle away from the patient and had the patient extricated within 25 minutes of arrival. Command cancelled the "Go Team" and the patient was turned over to EMS.
Engine 73 established a landing zone for Trooper 2 and US Park Police Eagle 2 for transport. Trooper 2 transported the first patient to PG Trauma as a Priority 2 Trauma patient and Eagle 2 transported the second patient to Medstar Washington Hospital Center as a Priority 1 Trauma patient.
Command was terminated and all units cleared the scene and returned to quarters at 0040 hours.
This incident shows how well Companies work together on a daily basis. Three different Fire Departments operated on this incident flawlessly and completed this extensive extrication after 25 minutes of arriving on the scene. Great Job to all involved and to Rescue Squad 1 and Rescue Squad 2 who provided numerous tools and resources for this incident to be completed.
